
Dr. James E. Newsome
DR. JAMES E. NEWSOME has been president of the New York Mercantile Exchange since August 2004. Prior to that, he served as chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) beginning in December 2001. He was a commissioner of the CFTC from August 1998.
In addition to his responsibilities at the CFTC, Dr. Newsome served as a member of the President's Working Group on Financial Markets and on the President's Corporate Fraud Task Force to coordinate corporate fraud investigations.
Along with Dr. Newsome's board responsibilities at NYMEX, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Dubai Mercantile Exchange, and the National Futures Association.
His honors include: Distinguished Alumnus, University of Florida; Alumni Fellow, Mississippi State University; Arthur Kaplan Award, Futures and Options for Kids; and Person of the Year, Stock Futures and Options Publication.
Dr. Newsome received his bachelor of science degree in food and resource economics from the University of Florida and his masters of science and doctorate of philosophy degrees from Mississippi State University.
