Victor H. (Hu) Meena, Jr.
Hu Meena has served as president of Cellular South, Inc., which provides wireless service to all of Mississippi and parts of 4 southeastern states. As president he is responsible for the strategic direction and the operations of the company.
Prior to joining Cellular South, Meena served as the general manager of Southland Systems of Mississippi, Inc., a long distance telecommunications service provider. In 1987 he became the general manager in Cellular South’s first operating market on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and was responsible for the company’s start up in February of 1988. After serving in that capacity until 1990, Meena was promoted to vice president of operations and development. In 1997, he was named president of Cellular South, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Telapex, Inc. During this time Cellular South has grown to become the nations’ largest privately held wireless company.
Under Mr. Meena’s direction Cellular South has received numerous awards including the President’s Safety Award from the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA) for demonstrating leadership in wireless safety education initiatives. In addition, Cellular South was named a recipient of the 1999 Blue Chip Enterprise Award by the United States Chambers of Commerce and Mass Mutual, the first Mississippi telecommunications company to receive the Mississippi Quality Award for Excellence, the recipient of The Wireless Week (a national trade publication) Award for Excellence for 2003 and in 2005, distinguished recognition from the Newcomen Society in 2006 and the Mississippi Technology Alliance Excellence Award in 2008.
Mr. Meena serves as chairman of the board of the Associated Carrier Group, a wireless device purchasing cooperative, made up of CDMA wireless carriers and is a member of the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA) Board of Directors. He also serves as a board member of Telapex, Inc., Mississippi Economic Council, Jackson Metropolitan Area Chamber of Commerce and Jackson Preparatory School.
Mr. Meena is married to Ashley Creekmore Meena and they have 3 sons, Victor Matthew, Wade Albert and Lee Creekmore. The Meena family is active in and attends First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, MS.
