What is Distance Learning? Distance Learning takes place when students and faculty members are separated from each other by location or time. Distance learning courses usually have little or no requirement for "live" meetings--whether in a physical location or across the Internet. By offering flexible and convenient access to the course materials and assignments, DL is attractive to a wide variety of students. A growing number of students want to attend classes that are independent of any constraints on time or place. MSU @ a Distance allows students to do that while also encouraging high levels of interaction with their professor and classmates. Collaborative projects and frequent communication ensures meaningful interaction with faculty members and peers. MSU @ a Distance uses various technologies to offer distance learning courses. The majority of our classes are facilitated by online courseware that can be accessed over the Internet. MSU @ a Distance's current course management system is Blackboard myCourses. Distance learning courses at Mississippi State University provide students with the ability to take courses from virtually any place and at any time. The courses combine the Internet, innovative tools, and technologies that allow students to conveniently fit studies into any busy lifestyle.
